Juan Carlos Salazar Elena, is PhD in Economics and lecturer at the Department of Development Economics at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). Currently, he is also the Academic Coordinator of the UAM-Accenture Chair in Economics and Management of Innovation and Secretary of the European Inter-University Association on Society, Science, and Technology (ESST).
His presentation offers a review of the scientific research devoted to the study of the spatial concentration of knowledge, open innovation and the development of local and sectorial innovation systems, showing a panoramic view of the main theoretical approaches that address this phenomenon, as well as the empirical evidence on the “drivers” that boost the formation and evolution of such systems.
